Registered bonds to fund the public debt, 1870-1872.

Pursuant to St 1861, c 198, the state treasurer was authorized to issue scrip or certificates of debt to fund the payment of the unfunded debt and to be applied to the deficiency in the income of 1861 (Coupon bonds to fund the public debt, 1861-1872 ((M-Ar)1544X)). Registered bonds, issued 1870-1871 to redeem the certificates per St 1867, c 255 and valued at $1,000, were due in 1872 with interest paid at five percent per annum.

St 1890, c 428 enabled municipal officials or directors of railroad companies in Massachusetts to petition the Superior Court to abolish or alter railroad grade crossings; a court-appointed commission then made a decision to be confirmed by the court.
